Strength in the Storm

There was once a man who had all the strength a man could ever want. He was powerful and mighty, and had a great deal of influence. The problem was that whenever a woman tempted him, with rage, or the desires of his stomach he fell into them like a frat boy.

This man’s name was Samson, and his story is recorded in the Bible as well.

But that same story is common for many men, including me.

I want to be good, and do good. I want to be strong and dependable, but when temptation comes, manly actions are not what come next.

Solomon wrote in Proverbs, “If you fall apart during a crisis, then you weren’t very strong to begin with.”[1]

Real strength is what stands strong when temptation, storms, and the rest of life test it.

The truth is I do not feel very strong in those moments, and there is a good chance that you feel the same. And that sucks, especially if you are a man.

But real strength is not just found from within ourselves, but is found in God.

God gave Samson ultimate strength for one last victory, and in our lives when we rely on God, especially when life feels out of control, He will give the strength to not fall apart in crisis.

I get it, it is tough for us men to rely on anyone but ourselves, but that is the point!

We cannot save the day, which is why Jesus came, because only He could.

It takes real strength to admit it.

What area have you been failing in strength in your life? What can you do about it?
